We believe that children learn through exploring their surrounding environment. We organise outings in relation to our topics to develop children’s knowledge and understanding through personal experience.

For each outing we ensure:

  • A risk assessment is carried out prior to an outing.
  • Parents always sign consent forms before major outings.
  • Our adult to child ratio is high with 1 adult : 2 children.
  • The children are appropriately supervised to ensure no child gets lost and that there is no unauthorised access to children.
  • We ensure that a high ratio of staff are First Aid trained and we carry a first aid kit with us.
  • We ensure at least one member of staff has a fully charged mobile phone and the telephone numbers of each child.
  • We make all children aware of the possible dangers on visits such as road risks, stranger danger and picking up things from the ground.
  • Appropriate restraints, buggies etc will be used according to the age and development of each baby or child.

However, if a child did appear to be lost during a visit we would follow the following procedure:

  • Gather all the remaining children together for register and head count with all the staff.
  • Two staff members to look in the immediate area.
  • If in a public place such as shop, library etc inform security.
  • Supervisor to inform parents / carers (if unavailable, other named contacts on registration form).
  • Supervisor to contact police : 0845 045 45 45 and social services : 01252 314221

For those children remaining at the setting the adult to child ratio conforms to the requirements of the National Standards for day care.
